When I was 14 an arts school told me I had no talent as a writer. Should I ever try to write again?

It was a very famous and prestigious school. They evalualted my audition (an essay I had to write on the spur of the moment) on a scale of 10 with 1 the lowest and 10 the highest, they gave me a 3. I've never tried to show my work (novels and stories) to anyone again, and have only written sporadically since then. It's been twenty years, and I still want to write sometimes despite being bad at it. Should I waste anymore time on it?
